Independence Landing is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation, the mission of which is to build, own, and operate an affordable and safe residential community for adults with varying intellectual and/or developmental disabilities, allowing residents to successfully lead independent and fulfilled lives. Our community is managed by Royal American Management, Inc. (RAM) and all on-site services and activities are provided by Specialized Supports, Inc. (SS).
We firmly believe that with the right support in place, anyone can live independently and be happy, healthy, and safe. Most of our residents only need support by way of verbal prompts and reminders, mentoring, independent living coaching, and limited supervision. Many go to work, continue their education or vocational training, or participate in local, off-site day training services with the provider of their choice.
We’re here because they matter. At Independence Landing, we believe that adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) deserve the opportunity to live independently, and we are proud to provide an affordable, innovative alternative to traditional group homes or state facilities. Our community offers an apartment-style living experience where residents have the chance to define their own lifestyle and make meaningful decisions about their lives.
When families visit our community, they often share “This is a dream come true.” For families and loved ones, IL offers peace of mind, knowing their resident is being cared for in a way that promotes independence and personal growth, while still providing the necessary support to ensure their well-being. Our residents are part of a community that values both self-sufficiency and connection, giving families confidence that their loved ones are thriving in a safe, supportive environment.
Residents are encouraged to take control of their future by signing their own leases (with the option for a guarantor if needed) and choosing the level of independent living services that best suit their needs. This empowers individuals to create their own path, both inside and outside the community. While we offer support services and a variety of activities to help residents thrive, Independence Landing is designed to provide a balance of autonomy and guidance, allowing residents to integrate into the greater community while still receiving the support they need to succeed.
Independence Landing is not intended for individuals who require 24/7 supervision or constant care, nor does it impose restrictions on relationships, lifestyle choices, or personal decisions. Instead, we offer a space where adults with IDD can pursue independence, make life decisions, and be in charge of their own futures—all while being part of a supportive and inclusive community. Their wish is our mission.
